A factory established. 1950-52. Automatics Department, Enfield works. This period was engaged in manufacturing striking clocks, including pendulum time pieces, and the casing of strikes and time pieces, i.e. kitchen clocks and Bakelite cased strikes, BimBams etc. 1952 saw the introduction of the 8 day conical pivot QH movement.
Smiths Enfield Square Grandfather Clock
In 1929, the Enfield Clock Company (London) Ltd was established. In 1932, the first clocks were sold. The company was sold to Smiths in 1933 and became part of Smiths English Clocks Ltd (q.v. ), but it continued to operate independently until around 1938, when the line between Enfield clocks and Smiths blurred. All clocks were simply labelled Smiths after c1952, and the Enfield name was dropped.
